The Smart Home Discovery Place is a home-like learning environment located at The Ohio State University Nisonger Center – a University Center for Excellence in Developmental Disabilities. This setting provides an interactive environment in which one can discover different technologies that can be installed in the home and may be used to support a person with intellectual disability and related developmental disabilities (ID/DD) to live more independently in the home of their choice. Many of these “technology solutions” are readily available and can be easily purchased through any one of the three Ohio ID/DD home and community-based services waivers.

This training is based on the Smart Home Discovery Place and is intended to help introduce learners to the available technology solutions and other related support services. Following this training, participants should have the information they need to make a decision about technology solutions.

This training includes a virtual tour of the Smart Home Discovery Place and a series of questions that help the participant reflect on how these technologies might be beneficial.
